This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 10 and Dexter season 1.A small detail in the finale of Dexter: Original Sin made one of Debra Morgan’s (Molly Brown) worst romantic relationships even more creepy than it already was. Deb was a major focus of Original Sin season 1, and while she had quite a few ups and downs, most of her developments were positive. For instance, Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar) convinced Deb to join the police, she grew significantly closer to both Dexter (Patrick Gibson) and Harry Morgan (Christian Slater), and she even repaired her friendship with Sofia (Raquel Justice). The ending of Original Sin season 1, however, included a dark hidden detail about Deb’s story.

Throughout the original Dexter, Deb had a trend of dating terrible men. Original Sin continued the trend by revealing that Gio Martino (Isaac Gonzalez Rossi) was a drug smuggler, but Dexter season 1 is where it really began. In Dexter season 1, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) unknowingly dated Brian Moser (Christian Camargo), Dexter’s biological brother. Brian turned out to be the Ice Truck Killer, and he even tried to get Dexter to murder Deb. It was a hugely traumatic moment for Deb, but Original Sin somehow found a way to make it even more disturbing.

Original Sin’s Season 1 Finale Hints Brian Moser Continued Stalking Dexter & Deb For 15 Years

Brian Seems To Be Watching Dexter’s Life From Afar After Original Sin

The final seconds of Original Sin season 1 revealed that in spite of his conversation with Harry – where he agreed that Dexter had a good life with the Morgan family – Brian Moser (Roby Attal) didn’t stop stalking Dexter. Brian watched Dexter, Harry, and Debra dance together through a window, which seems to hint that he continued to stalk Dexter for the next 15 years, until he made contact in Dexter season 1. Brian only agreed that Harry was a good influence on Dexter and promised to stay out of his life, but he never said anything about leaving his little brother alone entirely.

While Brian may have been watching Dexter specifically, he also stalked Deb while tracking his little brother. Dexter and Deb had a very close relationship, especially after Harry Morgan’s death, and they hung out together constantly. They both worked at Miami Metro, they went out to dinner and lunch together frequently, and Deb would often stop by at Dexter’s apartment for beer and steaks. Just by virtue of being around Dexter so much, Deb inadvertently became another victim of Brian’s stalking. He may not have intended to, but by the time of Dexter season 1, Brian had stalked Debra for 15 years.

Brian’s Years-Long Stalking Makes His Romance With Deb In Dexter Season 1 Even Creepier

Brian Knew Everything About Deb & Used His Years Of Stalking To Seduce Her

The fact that Brian stalked Deb for 15 years only makes his romance with her in Dexter season 1 even creepier. Dexter already revealed that Brian had created the persona of Rudy Cooper specifically to seduce and manipulate Deb, but Original Sin completely recontextualized it. Brian wasn’t just playing a generic good boyfriend, he had a decade and a half of knowledge about Deb, and he knew exactly how to appeal to her. He had watched Deb vent to Dexter about boyfriends, breakups, her likes and dislikes, and dreams for her life, and he used it all to get close to her.

It was creepy enough that Brian had constructed an entire fake identity just so he could gain Debra’s trust and ultimately kill her, but Original Sin made him even worse. Brian didn’t just violate Deb’s trust as an adult, he violated her privacy for over half her life at that point, including when she was still a minor. He knew things about Deb she only felt comfortable sharing with Dexter, which somehow makes his reveal in Dexter season 1 even worse. It’s completely disgusting, and while Deb never knew just how much Brian Moser violated her in Dexter: Original Sin, we the viewers do.
